Terrorist Attacks on 9/11 Case Study The attacks of 9/11 changed the way that the world, and especially the United States, views and reacts to terrorism. The four coordinated attacks were thought out and launched by an Islamic terrorist group known as al-Qaeda. These attacks killed almost 3,000 people and caused close to 10 billion dollars in damages. The casualties and costs are considerably high if the fight against terrorism and those that have fought in the war on terrorism are taken into account. The attacks were focused on the North and South World Trade Towers, the Pentagon, and an unknown target. (Ross, 2014) On August 13, 2001, the hijacker Zacarias Moussaoui raises suspicion when he begged the flight simulator trainer to have lessons to learn to fly a 747 jet at the Pam Am International Flight Academy. He paid for the lesson in cash at the cost of $6,800.00. Two days after this suspicious occurrence, the FBI began an intelligence investigation on Moussaoui due to the flight instructors reporting their concerns. That same day, CIA Counter-Terrorism Chief, Cofer Black, tells the Defense Department at a convention that we will be attacked soon, killing many Americans possibly occurring on U.S. soil. Orders for Moussaoui to be deported from the United States are completed on August 17, 2001 and the FBI began an effort to obtain a search warrant for his computer. During this time leading up to September 11, multiple terrorists take flight lessons, obtain gym memberships, and move funds to various places in order to have funds for their operation. The September 11th attacks were caused by terrorists hijacking United States’ (U.S.) airplanes and flying them into major U.S. landmarks. Terrorists are people who use violence to achieve political goals. One of terrorist’s goals is to create political change by establishing fear in a society in which they despise. They accomplish their goals using fear against the government. The targeting of innocent victims and significant places has been the preferred method of terrorism rather than larger terroristic attacks. Terrorists have used many different tactics. In the 1960s, many terrorists participated in bank robberies and hijackings. Currently, tactics used include kidnapping, murder, arson, train robberies, bombings, and one of the most gruesome, plane hijackings.There is not a way that has been proven to prevent terrorism completely; however, it can be controlled by using border patrol.Border patrol, however, would not prevent suicide bombings. Suicide bombings could affect and damage many different targets. Some targets include government buildings, military bases, and many more.On September 11th, 2001 suicide bombing reached a whole new level. It was the worst attack on the U.S. since the attack on Pearl Harbor. The September 11th attacks affected America immensely because of its massive killing and the fear which prevailed afterward.
On September 11th 2001, America experienced a major tragedy with attacks on the World Trade Center in New York. A group of terrorists, who called themselves al-Qaeda, hijacked U.S. airplanes and flew them into three U.S. properties. The World Trade Center towers were one of the tallest buildings in the world before the attack. American Airlines flew the first plane out of Boston and terrorists drove that plane into the north tower of the World Trade Center. The north tower collapsed after 102 minutes. The fire chiefs of New York ordered firemen to evacuate the north tower. However, the firefighters did not receive the information to evacuate and were unaware of the danger. This resulted in the death of many firefighters. The second plane was a United Airlines plane which left from Boston and crashed into the south tower of the World Trade Center. The south tower collapsed after fifty-six minutes. After the planes crashed into the buildings, there was a dreadful fire. Instead of burning to death, over fifty people jumped from the windows to their death. Post September 11th, pictures were found of the people falling and were later called the Falling People. Also damaged in this terroristic event was the World Trade Center building number seven. Building number seven incurred a gaping hole which was ten stories tall. The World Trade Center attack affected not only the World Trade Center but everything around it. The World Trade Center attack affected every building in the surrounding area.
